Adiabatic oscillations of infinitesimally thin, rotating, and self-gravitating nonisentropic gas disks in dynamical equilibrium are studied. The construction of such disks is first described, and linearized equations of nonradial adiabatic oscillations are derived in the form of turning point equations. The local approximation of these equations is discussed and a new quartic dispersion relation for short-wavelength solutions is given. This relation shows three types of modes which can be distinguished according to their main restoring forces of oscillation. The properties of the modes are discussed, the asymptotic method of solving the turning point equations is considered, and the boundary conditions are given. Exact mode solutions for uniformly rotating Maclaurin gas disks are reexamined and interpreted in terms of the mode concepts. The relations of modes of thin and thick disks and of gas disks and stellar disks are discussed.
