Cosmic Strings
Scientific paper
The author studies the effects of torsion generated by a pseudo-scalar field coupled to electromagnetism in a gauge invariant way that is consistent with the principle of equivalence. When cylindrically symmetric electromagnetic waves emitted by a cosmic string have a specific polarization, perturbations of the electric-magnetic fields are generated through interaction with the torsion potential. The following analysis demonstrates how these perturbations can service as signatures to identify torsion in a cosmological setting.
