It has been shown in earlier studies that the earth's magnetosphere can be described as an Alfven maser wherein the magnetic flux tubes act as the resonator, while energetic electrons and protons trapped in the radiation belts act as the active medium. The fine structure of the radiation of such an Alfven maser is examined here, with particular attention given to signals of the Pc1 type excited by the proton component of the radiation belts.
