Using Hori's (1966) perturbation method in the case of the motion of two sun-orbiting planets whose periods are in the ratio of 2:1, where eccentricities and inclinations are small, it is established that a completely integrable Hori auxiliary system, and therefore a new intermediate orbit, results. This intermediate orbit includes resonant effects, and is therefore preferable to a pair of Keplerian orbits as a first approximation in this problem.
