A compilation of the complex refractive index of ordinary hexagonal ice from the ultraviolet to the far-infrared has been made for -7 C and recommended for use at temperatures between -60 and 0 C. The imaginary part of the complex index of refraction is obtained from measurements of the spectral absorption coefficient; the real part is computed to be consistent with the imaginary part by using known dispersion relations. The compilation of the imaginary part of the refractive index involves subjective interpolation in the near-ultraviolet and microwave, a temperature correction in the far-infrared, and a choice between two conflicting sources in the near-infrared. New measurements of the absorption coefficient of pure ice within 60 K of the melting point are needed in the following five wavelength regions: 185-400 nm, 1.4-2.8 microns, 3.5-4.3 microns, 33-600 microns, and 1.25 mm - 2 m.
