A new technique for the image processing of the solar corona together with its application to the data taken at the total solar eclipse in Africa on June 21, 2001 is introduced. It is difficult to process images of astronomical objects, which has large dynamic range of the intensity such as the solar corona. The author tried a new technique by composing many images of different exposure times, and succeeded to obtain a coronal image where one can recognize any details of coronal streamers, both at the brightest region around the Moon's edge and at the fainter part of the outer region, simultaneously. Actual photographic data were taken at the total solar eclipse at Lusaka in Zambia on June 21, 2001, by using a 6×7 camera of large format film attached to a refractor of 12.5-cm aperture (f/4.0). Fourteen frames, which had different exposure time, were digitized by a film scanner, and were composed to one image by an image processing on a PC. On the final image, the detailed structure of the corona can be recognized over the 4 order of the dynamic range of the brightness together with high-resolution over a wide-field of view of 7.088×5.787 degrees, which is beyond 11 times of the solar radius. This final image was compared with the images taken by the SOHO satellite at around the observing time of the solar eclipse. The discussion on this comparison is also described in this paper.
