The discrepancy in M 33 inner region plane orientation values obtained from surface photometry data and data derived from the shape of the spiral is resolved by means of a two-step procedure. First, a V-band photograph of M 33 was scanned with a PDS microdensitometer, subtracting spiral arms and foreground stars by means of an automatic procedure. The results obtained are in agreement with those for the entire galaxy's surface photometry. Then, a detailed analysis of the spiral arms' delineation showed that the global form of the southern arm is due not only to stellar formation triggered by a shock wave, but also very active secondary star formation.
