The problem of determining the intrinsic shapes of ring structures in disk galaxies is rediscussed. The difficulties involved in interpreting frequency distributions of apparent axial ratios are pointed out, and it is shown how the observed orientation of rings in barred galaxies can be helpful in obtaining more definite conclusions. Inner rings in these systems are aligned along the bar with average axial ratio 0.82, while outer rings are on average aligned perpendicular to the bar with axial ratio 0.90.
