We review our use of hybrid simulations in the study nonlinear Alfvén waves. The simulations treat ions as particles and electrons as a fluid. We address how wave nonlinearity and ion kinetics can influence the polarization, compressional component, and imbedded rotational discontinuities seen in association with Alfvénic fluctuations in the solar wind.
