Vandas et al. (1) reported that some observations of magnetic clouds exhibit features characteristic of spheroidal clouds (spheromaks) rather than of a simple flux rope, namely specific full sinusoidal profiles of magnetic field components or double-peak magnetic field magnitude profiles. On the other hand, numerous other facts stress a flux rope structure of magnetic clouds (energetic particle observations, multi-spacecraft measurements, association with eruptive prominences) over a detached plasmoid (spheromak). We analyze several cases of magnetic clouds and suggest that a double flux rope structure of these objects is common and solves this puzzle.
