Stars: Low-Mass, Brown Dwarfs - Open Clusters And Associations: Individual: Pleiades
Scientific paper
RIJHK photometry is presented for low-luminosity Pleiades stars and brown dwarfs discovered in an earlier proper motion survey. Reasonable agreement is found with theoretical models if the Pleiades stars are assumed to be no older than 70 Myr. Some stars appear to be as young as 3 Myr, and 22 cluster members appear to have masses < 0.08 Msun and are therefore brown dwarfs. It is also found that the R-L, I-K colour-colour diagram appears to act as an indicator of age for low-mass objects.
