The plates of the Pleiades cluster obtained with the Schmidt telescope (80/120/240) at Baldone, Latvia, were reduced. A mean radial distortion coefficient of -5.5 x 10 exp -8/sq mm is computed on the basis of measurements of 244 stars from the PPM catalog in the 4.2 x 4.2 deg field. The reduction errors are shown to decrease by a factor of two when the distortion in the measured star coordinates is taken into account; in this case the complicated reduction polynomials do not yield a substantial gain in coordinate computation accuracy as compared to the linear model.
