This paper provides the solar motion elements derived from the space velocities of 5700 stars from the "Bright Star Catalogue". It is shown that because of the errors in proper motions, stars brighter than about M =0 do not have, at present, usable space velocities. A discussion of the results of the present and of the previous papers leads to a standard solar motion defined by l = 52°, b = 22° and V = 20 km s-1, with uncertainties of ±3° ±3° and ±1 km s-1 respectively. We confirm that the dispersion of the peculiar velocity components increases systematically with age. We redefine the standard solar motion as the motion of the Sun with respect to normal stars (i.e. having MK types without spectral particularities) of the BS catalogue. It corresponds to that of stars younger than 109.5 yr, with distances less than one Kpc from the Sun.
