The discovery of the cosmic microwave background radiation is discussed beginning with radio astronomical measuring techniques, followed by the history of the detection of background radiation, and a summary of some of its properties. Attention is given to the design and operation of a radiotelescope, its antenna and radiometer, exhibiting its advantages, including the ability to measure a collecting area with the aid of a transmitter located less than 1 km away. It is concluded that the discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation has enabled the observation of the present radiation temperatures of the universe.
