Characteristics of auroral hiss emissions detected near the Io plasma
torus by Voyager 1 are described. These characteristics are compared
with those of similar emissions detected in earth's magnetosphere.
Implications are discussed regarding the interaction of the Io plasma
torus with the Jovian magnetosphere.
