We report the discovery of narrow X-ray absorption lines (O viii, Ne X, Fe xxv and Fe xxvi) from the LMXB MXB1659-298 during an XMM observation in 2001 February. The source displays two eclipses, intense dipping activity and one type I X-ray burst. Interestingly, the absorption features are evident from the persistent (no dipping, no eclipsing) emission.
