The stability of the orbits of the triple system lambda Tau is considered at various percent points during the evolution of the mass-transferring binary. A surprisingly low upper limit of 50 percent for the orbital angular momentum loss of the inner (Algol-like) binary is derived from the requirement that the system was stable when the mass ratio of the inner binary was unity.
