Aspects of the hydromagnetic structure of the magnetospheres surrounding magnetic A stars are considered and the magnetopause radius is estimated. Typical sizes exceed 10 AU. The supply of mass to the magnetosphere from the star is considered; a model for formation of a corona is suggested which relies on heating by the auroral dissipation at the magnetic poles. Plasma supply from planets contained within the magnetosphere is considered along with the possibility of discovering these planets from photons emitted as a consequence of the planet-magnetosphere interaction. A number of mechanisms for rotational spin down of magnetic a stars are considered. A new spin down theory based on emission of interstellar magnetosonic modes from the shear unstable magnetopause is suggested. A comparison is made to certain classes of pulsar models.
