Interdependence of trigonometric terms with the constant term in the current two-term form of the Lomb periodogram leads to cases where the maximum computed power does not correspond to the dominant frequency in the data, i.e., the dominant frequency is misidentified. This happens even in noiseless cases with only one frequency present. A three-term form of the Lomb periodogram is considered as a way of correcting the problem.
