White light and UBV photoelectric photometry studies the dwarf nova of OY Car indicate that the white dwarf, bright spot, disk, and gas stream respectively contribute 44, 25, 22, and 9 percent to the total quiescent flux at hump maximum. Dwarf nova outburst models are invoked in a discussion of observations indicating that only the disk brightens up while the dwarf star, bright spot and gas stream remain unaffected by the eruption. Brightening begins near the disk's outer edge and propagates toward the disk center within a few hours. The mechanism required to account for these phenomena must be located in the outer disk, which constitutes the transition zone between convective and radiative disk structure.
