R-band surface photometry is presented for the E galaxies located in the cD clusters Abell 401 and Abell 2670. It is found that these E galaxies appear to be smaller at a given luminosity than those located in the outer regions of the clusters, which is consistent with the belief that those E galaxies located in the dense regions of rich clusters are significantly affected by tidal interactions. The results also show that the absolute sizes of the E galaxies in A401 and A2670 are comparable to those in spiral-rich clusters and that the number of highly flattened E galaxies in A401 is relatively higher than is typical for more spherical clusters. It is concluded that whatever effects are important in establishing the global geometry of rich clusters also affect the shapes of individual galaxies.
