The open cluster Pismis 6 and 8, and (the newly found) Wat 6, as well as the very luminous F2 Ia(+) supergiant HD 74180, lie at a common distance of 1.7 + or - 0.2 kpc, within 17 pc of each other in the plane of the sky. Reddening in front of these clusters is non-uniform, probably due to foreground extinction by dust lanes associated with the Gum nebula. The spatial proximity and age of these objects suggests a common origin.
