Photoelectric observations of VW Hyi during short and long eruptions are presented, consisting of UBV and uvby photometry as well as high speed photometry with up to 2-s time resolution (broad bandpasses and Balmer lines). The behavior of VW Hyi during short and long eruptions is compared in detail with particular attention given to the 'orbital hump' phenomenon. It is concluded that both types of eruptions (i.e., short and long) are caused independently by different processes located in the accretion disk or on the white dwarf companion.
