For the past 3.5 years we have conducted a search for extrasolar planets orbiting intermediate-mass subgiants. Compared to their A- and F-type main-sequence progenitors, subgiants are ideal planet search targets owing to their narrow spectral lines and low atmospheric jitter. So far we have detected 9 new exoplanets from our sample of 120 subgiants. These detections reveal a paucity of planets orbiting closer than 1 AU of stars more massive than 1.5 Msun. This semimajor axis distribution differs significantly from that of planets around solar-mass stars, of which 51% orbit within 1 AU. We have also found that Jovian planets occur a factor of 4 more frequently around A stars than low-mass M Dwarfs. This result has important implications for theoretical models of planet formation, as well as for future planet search efforts.
