We used the phased VLA and the VLBI Mark 5 disk recorder system to obtain high time resolution, voltage sampled records of the Crab pulsar at 1.4GHz. We can reach a sensitivity of 4.5 Jy for individual pulses at 16 microsecond time resolution. The data were obtained in order to investigate single-pulse radio/gamma-ray correlations with INTEGRAL. The radio data alone allow us to carry out a sensitive study of pulse statistics for the Crab. We will use the radio pulse statistics to explore the giant pulse phenomenon in the Crab. The nature of these extremely bright radio pulses has not been made clear by previous investigations. Are they the high-energy continuation of normal pulsar radio emission, or are they due to some very different emission physics? To address this question, we will present pulse energy distributions and other diagnostics of the Crab pulse distribution. We will then discuss how our results fit into the context of previous work, and the implications for pulsar emission physics.
