Bow shocks provide a way to probe their energetic environments and reveal properties of both the stellar wind and the ambient interstellar medium. We present Spitzer IRS spectroscopy and IRAC and MIPS imaging of the bow shock of the high mass X-ray binary (HMXRB)Vela X-1. The presence of a bow shock indicates that the system has a high (supersonic) velocity with respect to the interstellar medium, in the process of which dust and gas is accumulated. The strong UV and X-ray radiation fields of this system heat the dust. We detect the [Ne II] , 12.8um emission feature in the IRS spectra. The MIPS and IRAC data show filamentary structures and strong intensity variations. An attempt is made to model the physical conditions in the shock interaction regions.
