A sinusoidal graviational potential can explain many of the issues of structure that are generally resolved by introducing halos of cold dark matter. These issues include the flat velocity curves of disk galaxies, the radially preiodic distribution of matter in the Milky Way (Bartlett, 2004), and the 128 h-1 Mpc distribution of clusters of galaxies along the Galaxtic axis (Broadhurst et al, 1990). If this sinusoidal potential really exists, it should leave a signature in the cosmic microwave background radiation that could be found by looking at the patterns of temperature maxima. These maxima would tend to lie a few degrees apart in straight lines. If we are able to show that the real data shows this signature more than does random data, it will be another piece of evidence in favor of the sinusoidal potential. We are greatful to the WMAP team for the data we used, and to the developers of the HEALpix software package.
