We present a method of determining redshifts and relative distances using multi-color lightcurve shapes (MLCS) of Type Ia supernovae (SNe). Wide-field imaging surveys such as Pan-STARRS and LSST will yield a very large number of SNe Ia, essential for measuring possible variation in the equation of state of the dark energy. However, spectroscopic follow up of these SNe for typing and determining redshift will not be viable for such surveys. We use a modified version of the MLCS method to show that it is possible to accurately determine redshift and relative distance using only lightcurve information. We examine how well we can discriminate between SNe Ia and other explosive transients within this framework and examine the feasibility of cosmological analysis using only information from the lightcurves of SNe Ia. This research is funded by NSF grants AST-0443378 and AST-0507475.
