Theoretical and experimental motivations, status and prospects of low-energy supersymmetry are discussed. It is shown by explicit construction that the stabilization of any perturbative theory which contains fundamental scalar bosons naturally leads to the notion of supersymmetry. The supersymmetric algebra is briefly described and the resulting constraints on the low-energy theory are emphasized. The minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model is then pedagogically defined and discussed, and its experimental status is summarized. Dimensionless couplings are extrapolated to high energies and the unification scale is found and interpreted. Renormalization of the models is discussed and the linkage between high and low energies is demonstrated and argued to provide a potential probe of Planck scale physics. Electroweak symmetry breaking is shown to occur dynamically and to successfully predict a heavy t-quark. The low-energy Higgs potential is discussed more generally and special attention is given to the lightest Higgs boson. The upper bound on its mass in minimal and extended models is reviewed and explained. The Higgs mass is shown to provide a crucial test of nearly all supersymmetric theories. Generic low-energy flavor violations (the so-called flavor problem) are described and are used to constrain and classify consistent high-energy models for the s-particle spectrum parameters which softly break supersymmetry at low-energies. Generation of these parameters via tree-level local-supersymmetry interactions (supergravity mediation) or gauge quantum corrections (gauge mediation) is outlined. Possible lepton-number violation and scenarios for neutrino mass generation are also described.
