The Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer (MROI), a ten-element optical/near-infrared imaging interferometer, is being built by a collaboration between scientists and engineers at New Mexico Tech and the Cavendish Lab at the University of Cambridge. The design for the interferometer has been based on our key science program and optimizes all the subsystems to insure high-sensitivity, model independent imaging. MROI has entered the build phase for most of its subsystems, with first fringes anticipated in 2009. We present an overview of the science capabilities of the interferometer, an update on the design concepts and status of many of the subsytems, and the current schedule for first light and first science observations.
