We present a multi-epoch optical spectroscopic study of the ultraluminous nova like cataclysmic variable QU Car. We confirm the long period of the system of 10.6 hours, and discuss the origin of various emission features. The system displays a rich collection of Carbon lines, with P-Cygni profiles in CIV reaching 10,000km/sec. The presence of the [OIII] 5007AA and [NII] 6584AA emission lines point to the presencs of a diffuse nebula in the vicinity of the system. This, and other properties of the system are in agreement with the accretion wind evolution scenario and are suggestive that QU Car is a member of the V Sagittae category and a possible SNeIa progenitor.
This work is based on data obtained with the Blanco 4m/RC Spectrograph at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory.
