The paper analyses the profiles of interstellar features observed towards heavily reddened stars. All the features show spectacular Doppler-splitting but the radial velocities of the single components as well as the number of such components vary from feature to feature in the same spectrum. Implications concerning the wavelengths of unidentified interstellar lines or bands are briefly discussed.
