The detection of an anomalously "young" population of white dwarfs in the open cluster NGC 6791 has recently been shown to be the result of the formation of a population of white dwarfs with Helium cores rather than Carbon cores. This implies a mode of stellar evolution in which some stars avoid the Helium flash altogether. Some authors have previously speculated about the influence that planets might have on stellar evolution. NGC 6791 is a very metal rich cluster and so, by virtue of the correlation between planet frequency and metallicity, might well be expected to show any potential effect quite strongly. I will examine whether swallowing planets is a viable mechanism for explaining the truncation of stellar evolution in NGC 6791.
