Recent observations of the galaxy Malin 1 have questioned whether it really is a low surface brightness galaxy. It contains a normal stellar disk in its inner regions and its rotation curve seems to have the shape of high surface brightness galaxies, with an initial sharp rise. In this paper, we show that Malin 1 also falls nicely on the Spiral Arm Pitch Angle versus Shear relation, and we use this to derive limits on the mass and concentration of Malin 1.
