The use of optical fibres to construct Integral Field Units (IFUs) is discussed. The scientific advantages due to the ability of fibres to “pipe” light between virtually any two places are pointed out. It is also argued that with the appropriate investment of time and effort, fibres can be used to construct IFUs which perform as well optically as any other types of IFU.
