Thanks to the Optical Monitor (OM) on-board the XMM-Newton X-ray satellite, we obtained simultaneous optical/ultraviolet photometry and X-ray data for the XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST). We have obtained a catalogue of 2148 entries of which 1893 have 2MASS counterparts. Only 98 entries have, however, X-ray counterparts, of which 51 are known TMC members. Together with the OM catalogue of the TMC, we have investigated the optical/X-ray correlations of accreting and non-accreting stars. There is evidence that accreting stars are brighter in the U band than non-accreting stars, and have U-band excesses due to accretion. The OM/X-ray light curves show no evidence of correlation for accreting stars, suggesting that accretion is not a significant contributor to the X-ray emission of such young stars. In some cases, flares were detected in both X-ray and OM light curves and followed time properties typically seen in the Neupert effect (i.e., the X-ray flux is proportional to the integral of the optical flux).
