The proximity of Taurus allows for a clear look of the relations between young stars and their natal gas clouds. The combination of current surveys provide catalogue of pre-main-sequence stars complete to a fraction of solar mass and gas to Av 0.2. The distribution of pre-main sequence stars generally follows that of the dense gas, although a fraction of the older category (likely T-tauri stars) are located in regions with only diffuse gas emission. The total star formation efficiency (SFE) is relatively low at between 0.4% and 2%, depending on the definition of epoch. Assuming most pre-main-sequence stars have been formed in within the past 3 Myr, then the mass conversion rate from molecular to stellar is 2e-9 solar mass per year per molecular mass, which is consistent with the global conversion rate through out the Milky way. A significant jump in stellar surface density occurs around N(H2) = 5.5x1021 cm-2, roughly, Av=5.5, suggestive of an extinction threshold for star formation.
