We have identified large excesses of red galaxies in the fields of powerful radio AGN at z=1.5 with colours and photometric redshifts which suggest they are old, passively-evolving, massive ellipticals within rich galaxy clusters. These galaxies comprise the most distant red sequences yet discovered, and therefore offer unique prospects for advancing studies of the evolution of clusters and cluster galaxies. We have begun an extensive follow-up programme in the two richest fields which already includes deep imaging with HST ACS and awarded time with Spitzer. Here, we propose XMM imaging to i) investigate the intracluster medium in these systems and ii) identify AGN hosted by cluster members.
