We will present the initial findings of an investigation into the spectra and spectral variability of low mass X-ray binaries in the nearby elliptical galaxy NGC3379, which was observed with Chandra for 337ks. This galaxy was observed over five separate pointings taken between 2001 and 2006, during a program that focused on the study of LMXB populations. Through these observations we can characterize the LMXB population down to 1036 erg/s.
From this population we present spectroscopic studies for nine LMXBs with luminosities between 10^38 and 1039 erg/s and distances greater than 8 arcsec from the nucleus.
Our goal is to investigate the long and short-term variability of those sources and characterize their nature.
