An assessment is presented of recent suggestions in cosmological theory concerning the large scale structure of the universe, with attention to the roles which may have been played by quantum phenomena in the establishment of the network of galaxy clusters, filaments, and voids exhibited by the Peebles (1977) mapping of the Shane-Wirtanen 'million galaxy survey'. Also featured in theoretical proposals is a dominant form of matter, surrounding and pervading galaxies and exhibiting its influence as gravitation, which because of its invisibility is known as the 'missing mass'. An attractive candidate for the role of missing mass is the universe's content of massive neutrinos, whose abundant production during the Big Bang, slow movement, and weak interaction with ordinary matter, would permit them to be trapped in massive halos around galaxies while remaining undetectable.
