The low-luminosity radio galaxies 3C 296, 442A and 449 have been observed at 0.4 and 1.4 GHz with the Cambridge One-Mile telescope and at 2.7 GHz with the 5-km telescope. The high-resolution maps show that both 3C 296 and 449 possess radio jets symmetrically arranged about compact central components, whereas no such collimated structure is detected in 3C 442A. In common with other weak radio jets, those in 3C 296 and 449 have projected magnetic fields at right-angles to their axes. Models for the magnetic-field structure are considered: a partially-ordered configuration which leads to predictions of the jet inclinations is advocated. The low-resolution maps reveal extensive emission of low surface-brightness associated with 3C 449, but the radio structures of 3C 296 and 442A have well-defined outer boundaries. All three sources are identified with galaxies that possess close companions, but it is argued that orbital interactions are not important in determining their morphologies.
