A zircon U-Pb age of 2713 + or - 3 Myr confirms the age obtained from the same sample of zircon from the Stillwater chill zone. The age is compared with Sm-Nd mineral and whole-rock isochron ages of 2701 + or - 8 Myr, and the agreement to within 0.4% indicates that the lambda(147) = 0.00654 x 10 to the -9th per year value is less than 0.8% too large, thus enabling more correct geological syntheses to be made when working out detailed absolute age stratigraphies using precise data from both syntheses.
