CCD photometry is a convenient method of doing simulated aperture photography in the red bands. It has the advantage of recording an image of the galaxy from which an effective diameter can be derived. A description is presented of CCD photometry of mostly late-type, edge-on spirals in the Ursa Major and Cancer clusters. The considered observations were made with a CCD camera at the Cassegrain focus of the 61-cm telescope at the Mount Hopkins Observatory. The camera was controlled by a computer, which was also used to control the data. The investigation demonstrates that the Tully-Fisher relationship for edge-on spirals holds for R magnitudes derived from CCD photometry on a small telescope.
