The Venera-13, 14 X-ray fluorescence spectrometer was used to determine the rock composition of the Venus surface. This paper gives a detailed description of the method of measurement, and the design and principle of operation of the spectrometer. Particular consideration is given to the detection unit, the radioisotope sources of alpha and X-rays, the X-ray detectors, the multichannel analyzer, the method of spectrum measurement, and preflight planning of the experiment.
