In order to reduce the rate of meteors observed at zenith distance of the radiant z to the rate when the radiant is in the zenith, the exponent gamma in the reduction factor cos to the gamma power times z has been derived. More than 17,000 visual records of the Perseids made over a period of nine years were used. The value of the exponent thus obtained, gamma = 1.47 + or - 0.11, is very close to the average of the extremes used, gamma = 1 and gamma = 2. The conditions of observing the Perseid meteor shower are also discussed.
