Infrared observations, in J, H, and K, of the three brightest knots in the M87 jet show that the spectrum is well described by a power law from radio to optical frequencies, strengthening the view that the optical flux is due to synchrotron emission from relativistic electrons. While it is apparent that a spectral break between (UV-optical) and (radio-IR) slopes occurs somewhere in the optical region, the data do not clearly indicate a break between 1.25 micron and the optical B band.
