Goldsmith (1971) and other investigators have shown that injection of matter from the chromosphere is a necessary condition for the formation of loop prominances in the wake of solar flares. An injection mechanism associated with the evaporation of the upper chromosphere is proposed. Evaporation is due to abrupt breakdown of the heat balance owing to sudden intense heating of the corona by the shock wave of the flare. The loop structure of the magnetic field is a decisive factor in the mechanism.
