Discrete sources and diffuse X-ray emission provide tools to study different aspects of stellar formation and evolution of galaxies. However, it is not always easy to separate these two main constituents of the galactic X-ray emission. Large progress in this direction was achieved over recent years and INTEGRAL observatory have made one of the major contributions to it. In my talk I will review the current status of understanding of the cumulative emission of the Galaxy in a broad energy range with all main contributors: active stars, CVs, LMXBs, ISM-cosmic ray interaction. I will describe the latest source counts results from different deep galactic surveys and from analysis of long term INTEGRAL campaign, which was aimed on large scale mapping of the unresolved galactic emission.
