Large sodium (Na) emission enhancements have been observed when radar-bright regions ( 55 lat, 348 long and -29 lat and 349 long mercurian coordinates) were in our field-of-view (FOV). Enhanced emission is also observed when Caloris Basin is beneath or near the spectrograph slit. These observations apparently support the possibility that Na source regions are localized and associated with particular geological features. The special characteristics of these features that may be providing enhanced Na to the atmosphere are unknown but have enhanced SS and OS backscatter due to large amounts of multiple scattering at the surface and the subsurface. The composition at these locations may be highly enriched in Na and K, the regions may be highly fractured, and/or the regions may be hotter than surrounding areas because they are at the 'hot longitudes' or some other reason.
