The dynamics of the interstellar atomic gas is investigated by the mean of high resolution numerical simulations. We show that large fractions of thermally unstable gas, small scale structures and large density fluctuations are natural consequences of the turbulence in a 2-phase medium. We also present complementary 1D numerical experiments which take into account a network of 32 chemical species and show that the collision between 2 cold neutral medium clouds, is very efficient in triggering the formation of interstellar molecules.
